The falling away of the old…the birth of the new…and everything in between…here is where we grow – all within the cycles of change.

New beginnings

This past summer was filled with much change, and I welcomed it with open arms.

At the end of July I finished a six-year doctoral program, packed my bags, and moved west. I needed a new backdrop to my life, a new beginning. But as I settled into this new chapter I felt pulled back to create a resource and online platform for people seeking a more meaningful life, very much like we had created with Twin Tree Healing years before.

As many of you know, Greta (my beautiful sister) and I started a company called Twin Tree Healing almost ten years ago now. It was an online and in-person resource for mind, body, and spiritual modalities. For years we held in-person workshops, guided meditations, and individual sessions. We certified people in Reiki, held Yoga classes, and arranged Acts of Kindness Events. We developed a YouTube Channel and even produced our own CD.

As I attempted to run a business, while completing my doctorate, I unfortunately became very sick. The more I pushed back, ignoring the messages of my mind, body, and spirit, the sicker I became.

I had no choice but to reassess my life and take a long hard look at what needed to change. The number one priority was the absence of self care. I took notice of those around me…witnessing people doing much of the same thing…working at a pace that was making them mentally exhausted, physically burnt out, and void of spirit.

I am the kind of person that believes that everything happens for a reason; the good, the bad, and the ugly. I had the choice, succumb to this illness or choose to learn from it and perhaps help others going through similar experiences. I chose to write my dissertation on the topic of self care, specifically focused on clinical psychology doctoral students, and in my final year of internship created a research project focused on self care within the mental health field.

Unbeknownst to me, my lack of self care would be the beginning of an entirely new chapter.

This new beginning and this website is a culmination of my life experiences, my education in both western and eastern modalities, and the call of my spirit. This website is a resource and platform of all things self care, to inspire you to return to the adventure that is your life.

Welcome to Autumn & Fig.
